Every year, more than 650,000 people take part in the Winterlude Festival (Bal de neige) activities, with more than a third coming from outside the Capital region. As well, many visitors from all over the world come to see the festival. This year, the Winterlude Festival is being held from February 4th to the 20th in Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec.

Every Winterlude, this strip of the canal is cleared for such activities as the Bedzzz Annual Bed Race, Winterlude Triathlon ice skating demonstrations, various fun workshops, and much more. For those who have a passion for great food and drink, the Taste of Winterlude will definitely please the palate. Ottawa contains over 55 fantastic restaurants that offer wine pairings, special pre-fixed dinner menus, and other culinary delights. Another activity you will enjoy at Winterlude is taking a leisurely walk across the Ottawa River and into beautiful Gatineau, Quebec, where you will find Jacques-cartier watches Park and wander through the snow-powdered Snowflake Kingdom. The Snowflake Kingdom is the showpiece of Jacques-cartier watches Park. You will take in such activities as the annual Snow Sculpture Competition. The competition involves participants competing for the grand prize with their huge snow-sculptures. Each magnificent sculpture has to measure three metres long, five metres high, and three metres deep. The weight of a sculpture is about 40 tonnes. You will also see the Ice Hogs which are distant cousins of the ground hog. Every winter, the Ice Hog Family, Winterlude's mascots, travel to Canada's capital region to celebrate Winterlude. The family members are Mama and Papa Ice Hog and their children, Noumi and Nouma. They enjoy involving people in their snow games as they add life and excitement to the Winterlude orologiFestival.
